FF 16 Delay:
This year and last weren’t just the years of gaming reboots, remakes, and remasters, but also years of significant development and release delays, mostly caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic really dealt a huge blow to the gaming industry, and not just when it comes to games and their release dates — hardware also suffered massively. Gaming consoles were nowhere to be found, and their scarcity on the market slowly pushes people to frantic attempts to find the cutting-edge gaming equipment; and now the PS5 gaming title, the highly-anticipated Final Fantasy 16, is following the footsteps of its native console — it’s nowhere to be found since it got delayed.
New JRPG
A Japanese studio which has operated as an outsourcing outfit for franchises such as Atelier, Final Fantasy, and Persona is hiring for a “high-end RPG remake for PlayStation 5”. The name of the project is being kept private for now, and it’s almost certain it’s collaborating with a major publisher, although it obviously hasn’t disclosed which one.
Mutan Insight is looking to fill a number of positions, including a 3D art director, a 3D background designer, and a 2D character designer. Obviously there’s very little substance to this story beyond the headline, as it could be virtually anything – nevertheless, there’ll no doubt be a section of the PlayStation fanbase intrigued by the existence of an unannounced RPG remake.
What do you think it could be?
New PS5?
So, you got your hands on a PlayStation 5. Congrats! You’re officially in the next generation of console gaming, a member of an exclusive club allowed to play games about malicious space tentacle monsters and whatever the hell a lombax is. The PS5 might seem like a straightforward (if oddly shaped) gaming console, but it’s also somewhat of an enigma with a maze of menus nestled within menus. Here are 16 things you should do to get the most out of your new PS5.
Play Astro’s Playroom
Every PS5 comes with a preinstalled version of a game called Astro’s Playroom. Since it’s a freely bundled platforming game, you might be tempted to write it off. Don’t. Astro’s Playroom is a charming, wildly inventive action title that, debatably more than any other PS5 exclusive, shows off what the console can do. That’s not to say Astro’s Playroom is the most visually intensive game around (though it is quite pretty). Rather, it’s a bona fide tech demo for the console’s snazzy DualSense controller.
New PS5 App
A new app for iPhone and iPad lets DualSense controller owners customize and try out different feedback configurations for the controller’s trigger buttons.
Included with every PS5, the DualSense introduces many novel features, such as adaptive triggers, which adjust the tension of the rear buttons, making it easier (or harder) to press them down while playing a game.
While some games take advantage of the adaptive triggers, there’s no official way to manually test and adjust the DualSense on PS5. Fortunately, the PS5 Controller Trigger Test app does just that, allowing you to mess around with different trigger effects on the DualSense controller, among many other things.
